Behind the scenes of Purple’s launch

Last night at 8PM, we launched the Purple test phase 💜.
And honestly… I didn’t expect this.
This project has been in my head for months, even years. Building it, believing in it, doubting it sometimes too. And suddenly, it became real. The first girls were about to enter the app.
I was excited, but clearly not prepared for what was about to happen.
A launch… more intense than expected
In the first few minutes, everything happens very fast. Connections start coming in, profiles are created, matches happen, conversations begin.
And then it keeps going… more… and more.
At that moment, we quickly realized we had not anticipated this level of excitement at all.
The server couldn’t handle it, and the app went down for about 30 minutes.
I won’t lie, in the moment, it was stressful. The kind of moment where everything crashes at the worst possible time. But with a bit of perspective, you realize something important: if it crashes, it means there’s already real interest around Purple.
And honestly, that’s probably the best problem you can have when launching a project.
A real testing phase
We reacted immediately. We took the time to understand what happened and, more importantly, to fix it so it doesn’t happen again.
Today, everything is back to normal and the app is much more stable.
And most importantly, it allowed us to see Purple in real conditions, with real users.
Of course, we also discovered a few bugs. One or two blocking issues that appeared during the first uses. But in the end, that’s exactly why we’re doing a testing phase. These bugs were quickly fixed, and today the app already runs much better than it did at launch.
First feedback
What stood out to me the most was the first feedback.
Very quickly, there were profiles, conversations, first exchanges. Seeing the first users create their profiles, chat, and start connecting… that’s when you realize the project doesn’t really belong to you anymore.
And that’s exactly what we wanted.
👉 What’s next
Today, Purple is just the beginning.
It’s not a perfect version, and it’s not a final product. It’s a foundation. A foundation we want to make solid, because everything we build next will rely on it. We prefer taking the time now to do things properly, so we can add features later without breaking everything.
We already have a lot of improvements in mind. Simple things, like allowing users to crop their profile picture, but also more advanced features.
We’re also working on adding video stories directly inside the app, to let users share moments from their daily lives and make profiles feel more alive and natural.
We’re also working on integrating AI into the app.
The goal is not to replace conversations, but to help. Help break the ice, suggest topics, or restart a conversation when you don’t know what to say.
The testing phase continues
The testing phase will continue for a few more weeks. The goal is to observe, fix what needs to be fixed, and improve the experience step by step.
We’re also waiting for Apple’s official validation to release Purple on the App Store.
Once that’s done, and once we’re confident we have a stable version without major bugs, we’ll open the app more widely.
Of course, everything created during this testing phase will remain. Profiles, conversations, accounts… nothing will be lost when we move to the public version.
At that point, we’ll enter a new phase, with the goal of growing the project and allowing even more girls to join the experience.
This is just the beginning
What you’re using today is just the start. Purple will evolve week after week, based on your feedback, your usage, and what you experience inside the app.
We’re building something together. And honestly… thank you.
Thank you to those who are already here, thank you for your patience, your messages, your kindness.
You are the first ones.
And that… is kind of crazy 💜
Jennifer.
