Events are finally here on Purple 💜

A few weeks ago, in our 3-month recap of the app's launch, we told you we were working on something we hadn't seen in this kind of app before (or at least not among women). We promised it would be huge, without being able to say more.

It's time to show you what we meant.

What exactly are events?

Matching, chatting, sending voice messages... that's great. But at some point, the real question is: are we actually going to meet?

Events are exactly that: the ability to organize or join events with other women, directly from Purple. A brunch, an afterwork, a workout session, a movie night, an art opening, a game night... anything that gives you a real reason to leave the house and meet people in real life, not just behind a screen.

Every event has a location, a date, a category, a limited number of spots, and an organizer who created it. You browse the ones happening near you, join the ones that catch your eye, and you're set.

How to organize an event

Any verified user can create an event. You pick a title, a description, a date and time, a location (searched directly via Google Maps, no need to know the exact address), one or more categories, a photo, and how many people you can host.

Once created, your event goes through a quick review before it's visible to everyone, to keep Purple safe. After that, you can adjust the number of spots if needed, or cancel with one tap if something comes up.

Categories, so you find what suits you

We thought big, because "hanging out with other women" doesn't mean the same thing to everyone: food & drinks, nightlife, sports, beauty & wellness, arts & culture, movies, music, games, nature, travel, volunteering, personal development, networking...

You can filter by category, but also by distance, so you only see what's actually happening near you. New in town? This is probably the feature that'll help you most.

A group chat for every event

The moment you join an event, you automatically get access to its group chat, along with the organizer and every other participant.

That's where everything gets sorted out: the exact meeting point, a last-minute time change, a question about what to wear, or just a "can't wait to meet you all" before the big day. No more juggling separate DMs with each participant.

Official Purple events

Some events are organized directly by the Purple team. They're marked with an "Official Event" badge, and yes, that means the app's founder will actually be there.

We wanted Purple to be more than just an app you use from your couch, but a community you can actually run into.

About diamonds

Joining an event costs 5 diamonds, unless you're Premium, in which case it's free and unlimited.

We know that might be surprising. But it's intentional, and here's why: the moment an event becomes free with zero commitment, the risk of no-shows shoots up. You sign up on a whim, and when the day comes, you just don't show. The organizer ends up alone, or with half the group she expected.

Diamonds create a small commitment. Nothing huge, but enough that joining an event is a real decision, not just a consequence-free tap. And if you cancel early enough (at least 72h ahead), you get refunded automatically. It's only if you cancel last-minute, or simply don't show up, that you lose your diamonds.

Attendance and cancellations: built to be reliable

After an event, the organizer can mark who showed up and who didn't. It's not there to judge — it's there to protect everyone: a user who racks up 3 unannounced no-shows will temporarily lose the ability to join new events.

The goal is simple: when you sign up for an event, you should be able to actually count on the other participants being there. And when you organize one, you shouldn't end up waiting alone.

Still a safe space

Nothing changes on the safety side: events remain limited to verified, active users, just like the rest of Purple. Blocking and reporting work exactly the same way, including from an event's details or its participant list.

Meeting in real life has to stay just as safe as the rest of the app. That's non-negotiable for us.
